A photographic project can take unexpected turns. You might be gathering images without yet knowing what holds them together, or have been working for years and find that the next step is hard to see. This masterclass offers time to look again at your photographs, examine the choices you’ve made, and consider what you want the work to become.

Over five working days (3rd -8th of May), Jacob and Sara Aue Sobol will work closely with a group of twelve photographers on the editing and sequencing of a project for a photobook or exhibition. Through individual sessions and group discussions, you’ll share your work in progress and receive feedback on both the images and the ideas behind them. Together, you’ll consider what feels essential, what questions the work raises, and where a new edit or sequence might lead.

The programme combines talks, practical editing and sequencing exercises, writing, and group reviews. As you work with your own photographs, you’ll have the chance to test different approaches, clarify your intentions and develop the project’s concept. The group will also practise discussing photography with care and precision, building a shared language for constructive feedback while helping each participant articulate their own perspective.

Jacob and Sara will share experiences from their publishing practices throughout the week. The masterclass will conclude with a presentation of each participant’s work, in the form of a sequence or book dummy.

The workshop takes place at Stormosegaard, a newly renovated farm on Fejø, close to Sara and Jacob’s home and studio. Weather permitting, one day will include either a sailing trip or a visit to their studio and Jacobs grandfather house.

Practical information

The masterclass runs from 3–8 May, with five days of sessions spread across six days. Participants are welcome to arrive on Sunday 2 May and depart on Sunday 9 May.

Accommodation at Stormosegaard is available from 2–9 May, with three meals served each day.

Transport from Copenhagen Airport or a train station to the island will be arranged by the organisers.

All expenses are covered by the workshop fee. Early bird price until december 31st.

Please bring test prints of your project, approximately A6–A5 in size, to use for editing and building a sequence or book dummy.
